Michael Downs, Wine Steward

I am here to help Redding’s palette become one fully worthy
of a California palette. We will be expanding our Wine Beer and Spirits into a Destination spot. Our goal will be to carry
the finest and some of the most sought after Wines, Beers and Spirits in the world, to make Redding a Mecca of knowledge,
awareness, and understanding in all Alcoholic beverages. Stopping the “superstition” that alcohol is meant for
mass consumption, and not just to enjoy a beverage that a group of people (Wine makers Brew Masters and Distillery owners)
have devoted their lives to. Please come enjoy life
with us, all the beautiful things about the world I have grown so fond of.
See you all soon. Michael Downs, Wine Steward/Beverage Manager Tops Markets

Born and raised in Redding CA, Michael Downs had started his love for Wine out of
a respect for culture and the culture that wine brought with it. Michael stared working at Olive Garden at a young age and
needed to know about the wine list. After working at Catanio’s and growing a bit more knowledge of wine, decided to
pick up and move to Ohio. While in Ohio(after leaving CA, wine capitol of the world) Michael’s love and passion for
wine hit a new high. Mesh is a well known 5 stars, 4 diamond, restaurant in Cincinnati
OH. Becoming a server there, which staffed a Sommelier and has a wine list topping 2000 bottles, listing 240 different wineries,
and serving 24 wines by the glass meant serving wine was taking a new turn. Striving to be the best at what he did, Michael
decided to head to Cincinnati State Midwest Culinary Institute (MCI), housing one of the nations leading Wine programs, only
to ignite Michael into the world he currently resides in. After finishing MCI, a 7 month Wine program teaching everything
from wine making to the business of wine, and working at Mesh for 2 years decided to moving back to the Wine capitol of the
world, California. As soon as Michael came home he had found himself in a position
at Riverview Golf and Country Club in Redding CA. Michael right away got put into the wine world starting in just one aspect
of the business, the business of buying Wine. Riverview was to become a great tool for meshing to two worlds that Michael
was now a part of, Serving and Wine. Doing most of the ordering and buying for Riverview’s wine list, and also putting
together wine dinners, were just a few hats that Michael wore at Riverview. Towards Michael’s two year mark at Riverview,
Michael had decided to move to a job opening at Tapas Downtown in which he currently still helps on special nights, or for
wine catering. Soon there after had heard from long time friend, Amy, that Tops Markets, was starting to look for someone
to come on board and take what has always been a well thought out, Fine wine shop, to a new level. After hearing of such opening,
Michael could not come to the call faster. "And we are thankful he did."
